This page contains operational tips and tricks for managing your server hardware.

The following commands need to be executed as root.

   # dmidecode | less

Use this command to review your servers hardware configuration.

   # for i in /dev/sd?; do smartctl -i $i; done

This will tell you what drives you have in your server makes the assumption that they are SATA/SCSI style disks.

   # for i in /dev/sd?; do smartctl -i $i; done
   smartctl 5.40 2010-07-12 r3124 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] (local build)

The command above will show all the drives in your server, in the example above, only one drive is shown so you understand what you should expect to see.
