AM-DF-DNS

DNS and MX

This screen is used to manage DNS and MX settings for the non sub domain part of the domain, eg example.org not www.example.org.

This screen is useful if you have used DTC to register a domain but you want to host it on another server. For example, if you have a bunch of VPS and/or Dedicated Server accounts you can use the one DTC Hosting account to manage the domains registrations on all your VPS and dedicated servers.

Putting something else than "default" in the DNS fields means that you want your site to be hosted elsewhere. [Use this setting with the NS records of a domain when the DNS for a domain is hosted elsewhere.]

The MX parameter determines the address of the mail server that receives all your mail when somebody sends you a message. The value "default" means that you want to use the current server.

This screen has the following features:

  • IP address of the primary DNS server - IP Address of the primary DNS server for this domain.
  • Other DNS servers – IP Address of the secondary DNS server for this domain.
  • Primary MX address – IP Address of the primary mail server for this domain
  • Other MX (backup) servers – IP Address of the back up mail server for this domain (in most cases you’ll leave this blank as you don’t want to use a back up server).
  • Domain root TXT record – Free form text field that can be used to add additional information to the dns record that will be seen by anyone using the dig tool on the domain.
  • Domain root TXT record2 - Free form text field that can be used to add additional information to the dns record that will be seen by anyone using the dig tool on the domain.
  • Named zonefile – This part of the screen shows you the actual zone file that’s stored in the DNS server.
